The Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Russian Post" and EAST LINE Air Ticket Agency have launched a joined project providing for an opportunity for visitors of several post offices in Moscow to aquire air tickets to any destination in the world. The tickets are sold by EAST LINE representatives, and are issued within several minutes. Passengers of SN Brussels are entitled to a free of charge check-in at Paveletsky railway station. According to preliminary estimates, the service will be called for by some 10% of passengers of the airline flying from Domodedovo. SN Brussels became the second international carrier providing their passengers with an opportunity to a free of charge check-in at the Downtown terminal at Paveletsky railway station. Passengers can check in there 2:30 hours prior the departure. In ten months of 2004 the total amount of passengers served by Domodedovo International Airport reached 10.425.000, representing 32,8% year on year growth. Passenger flow on international routes reached 5.514 million passengers, which is a 48,8% more compared with the same period of 2003. The highest growth was recorded on routes to such destinations as Hurgada, Antalya, Sharm El Sheikh, Baku, London, Dubai and Dushanbe. A total of 2.484.000 travelers to these destinations went through Domodedovo, which is nearly 1,6 times (58,7%) more than in the same period in 2003. Domodedovo International Airport has accomplished installation of aerodrome lighting in the framework of a large-scale airfiled reconstruction to receive ICAO's IIId category. Landing and axis lights, inner approach lights and threshold lights are set into operation on the second runway. For today, in its largest part, the equipment meant for operation on the taxiways is installed and its testing is being fulfilled. The setting of signal masts and approach lights for the two approach courses are also in their final stage. During the reconstruction process to replace the second runway lighting, a backup lighting system was operational, enabling to use the runway at night. In the nearest future it is planned to start setting up a Precision approach path indicator system (PAPI), which is the final step in the whole range of works on the second runway. Domodedovo Air Service catering facility has completed another stage of its reconstruction. As a result, the facility's total square has increased by additional 400 sq m, totaling 9,800 sq m. The square of key production areas currently totals 8,200 sq m. On a daily basis, Domodedovo Air Service catering facility produces about 50,000 in-flight meal sets. Domodedovo International Airport continues its active preparations for the 2004-2005 winter season while maintaining leadership positions among Russian airports in terms of passenger throughput growth. Domodedovo International Airport is completing the first stage of equipping the passenger terminal with passenger boarding bridges (PBB). In the last four months, seven additional passenger boarding bridges have been installed and put into operation. Presently, 20 PBBs produced by THYSSEN Henschel (Germany) are being used at the Domodedovo airport - 10 in the international departure area and 10 in the domestic departure area. By the year's end, two more passenger boarding bridges, produced by FMC, a U.S.-based company, are to be installed. Thus, the total number of the PBBs will reach 22, 11 per each of two departure areas. PBBs used at Domodedovo have a number of advantages compared with similar equipment. The enterprise signed a treaty to supply hot and cold meals for the institute's central building and its branches, with some 1200 people working and studing there. It is planned that the supplies volumes will amount to 7500 - 9000 trays monthly. The assortment of the meals supplied includes hot meals (soups and main courses), salads, desserts, sandwiches, fruits, pastries, beverages. The meals are packed in the modified gas medium (MGM) using a special technology. In the framework of enhancing aviation security Domodedovo International Airport has introduced a new coursware to train security staff in tracking dangerous articles - "Threat Image Projection System" (TIP). The courseware was developed by Rapiscan company, which security equipment is actively used to ensure aviation security control at Domodedovo International Airport. The TIP software is aimed for automated inserting of images of hazardous items into the stream of X-ray images of real luggage on an operator's screen. The operator is to take a decision whether to pass this item or to examine it. The landing field modernisation includes a full survey carried out by the Aroproekt Research Institute to lay down the runway axis – which was completed within three months - and an enhancement of the Aerodrome’s technology systems conducted by Honeywell Airport Systems. The installed equipment provides for a flow-line control procedure, which saves passengers' time while passing through aviation control. Domodedovo International Airport introduces a prolonged check-in period during peak hours. The airport management have taken a decision to open check-in 3 hours prior to a flight in the evening. The innovation is valid for all flights departing from 8 p.m. till 10 p.m., when the amount of passengers increases. Apart from this, an extended check-in time is given for some flights by Domodedovo Airlines and Krasair. The extended flight registration is entailed by the Directive of the Federal Agency for Transport Surveillance, according to which additional security measures are to be undertaken in all airports in Russia starting from October, 1. Domodedovo Aircraft Maintenance Base has signed a treaty with an "IFK Technik" joint-stock company, a subsidiary of the Ilyushin Finance leasing enterprise, to provide technical maintenance and repair for IL-96-300. This is the first cooperation agreement between Domodedovo Aircraft Maintenance Base and Ilyushin Finance company. According to the treaty, two aircrafts IL-96-300, operated by KrasAir, will be serviced regulary by the enterprise.
