Plane Spotting at Domodedovo International Airport

Today, Domodedovo International Airport hosted the photo session of plane spotters, the aviation enthusiasts. It was the first time ever in Russia that about fifty best spotters of the country got together in Domodedovo. The event was organized at Domodedovo apron in the immediate proximity to the runways and taxiways under supervision of Airport Aviation Security officers. Participants had the opportunity to take pictures of the aircraft, precisely at the moment of their take-off or landing being at the safe distance from runways. The spotters suggested that similar events to be organized regularly. The most exciting pictures will be on display at the airport from the June 1, 2007. According to the statistics, Domodedovo keeps the leading position among Moscow airports in passenger traffic.Total passenger traffic in January-April 2007 was 4 million 586 thousand passengers, which is an 18.3 per cent rise over the same period of 2006.Flights to Ekaterinburg, Hurghada, Astrakhan, London, Bangkok, Antalia, St.-Petersburg, Tashkent, Utapao, Chelyabinsk saw the highest growth. The new Domodedovo airport lounge was designed to operate instead of the old one in the same area. Brussels Airlines has recognized Domodedovo International Airport as “the most pro-active airport”. This recognition was based on results of the annual contest the airline holds among the airports to which it operates its flights.Domodedovo was nominated in three of the nine contest categories, but it was in the “mostpro-active airport” category that it received its diploma. On Sunday, April 15, a special Transaero flight from Kerkyra (Greece) brought the spear-hand of Sanctifier Spiridon of Trimifunt, a Greek healer and miracle-worker in Moscow. The Orthodox relic was welcomed at the airport by a delegation from Moscow clergy headed by His Reverence Savva, Vicar of the Holy Patriarch and Bishop of Krasnogorsk, and the His Reverence Archimandrite Alexiy (Polikarpov), the Vicar of the St. Daniel Monastery. The Aviation Security Department of Domodedovo International Airport has incorporated the new generation SafeScout 100 screener into its common security system. The decision to deploy the equipment was taken upon its successful testing.To date, there are four SafeScout screeners operating in the airport. Two of them are installed in the business class passengers walkways of the international flights area and of the domestic flights area. Other two screeners are in the common security check area of the international flights area.Passengers passing through SafeScout 100 may keep their shoes and belts on and are not subjected to compulsory physical inspection that has been practiced in Russian airports since October, 2004.
