The international airports of Ekaterinburg and Nizhny Novgorod have been the first regional airports in Russia to be licenced for accommodation of RRJ-951 and its modifications. The official documents were signed by the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) in April. Nizhny Novgorod International Airport, since early this year a member of the new airport holding set up around Ekaterinburg Koltsovo, Russia’s biggest regional airport, has already confirmed the first slots for Aeroflot, which plans to start flights with Superjets from Nizhny to Moscow in the beginning of the summer.

“One of the airport holding’s objectives is the creation of the necessary conditions at the airports for a dynamic development of air traffic in Russia,” says Ekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport General Director Evgeniy Chudnovskiy.

Ekaterinburg Airport is licenced for handling 59 types of Russian- and foreign-made aircraft. Among them are: 8 Airbus types and modifications, incl. the A300B4 freighter; 6 Boeing types and modifications; 3 Embraer types; 3 ATR types; 8 IL types; 5 TU types; 4 AN types; 3 YAK types, and others. Nizhny Novgorod International Airport is licenced for over 40 aircraft types of Russian and foreign make. Among them are: 5 Airbus types, 5 Boeing types, 3 Embraer types; ATR, Fokker, CRJ, Saab and lower — two types each; 7 IL types, 4 TU types, 6 AN types, 2 YAK types, as well as all types of helicopters and the popular business planes.

For information:
RRJ-95 is a Russian short-haul passenger airplane developed by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft jointly with several foreign companies. The Sukhoi Superjet 100 family consists of two versions, for 75 and 95 passengers. Manufacturers point out the five seats in a row configuration, the enhanced aisle (51 cm), and the best aisle height in its class — 2.12 metres.

The design flying range is up to 3000 km for standard equipment and up to 4500 km for the extended range version. The length of the airplane is 29.8 m; maximum takeoff weight, 42.5 t; maximum speed, 950 km/h. The high fuel efficiency, the lower airplane weight, the power-saving cabin lighting technologies, the improved takeoff and landing characteristics alongside with all-weather operation capabilities bring down the operational costs by 10 percent. Besides, modern aircraft-making technologies have facilitated the airplane’s maintenance, and at turnaround airports it will only need ground handling.
