According to the results of January-March 2006, Domodedovo International Airport maintains the leading position in terms of passenger traffic in the Moscow aviation hub.In the thirst three months of 2006 passenger throughput reached 2,749,000 passengers, a 17.2% increase over the same period of 2005.The highest growth was recorded on the routes to such destinations as Bangkok, Sochi, Rostov-on-Don, St.Petersburg, Sharm-el-Sheikh, Tel-Aviv, Madrid, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. In May 2006 Domodedovo International Airport is to perform stage-by-stage increase in the number of check-in desks.In accordance with the work schedule from April 17, 2006 to April 27, 2006 ten more desks will be added to registration zone No. 3. From May 1, 2006 to May 11, 2006 ten check-in desks are to be added to zone No. 4.During extension the check-in zone will be temporarily (for four days two times) closed. During the temporary closing six desks of the zones under construction will be added to other operating check-in zones.No changes in passenger check-in services will occur during the temporary closing of zones Nos. 3 and 4. Today Domodedovo International Airport presented its technological development programme for the near future.Head of Russian and foreign airlines, representatives of transportation companies and travel agencies analysts and consulting companies, as well as representatives from the diplomatic community and NGOs took part in the event, which was held at the airport.The main objective of the airport technological upgrading program implemented within the framework of the general Domodedovo Airport development project is to expand passenger terminal and to equip it with state-of-the-art communication and engineering systems.Works on the terminal expansion are well under way. It was a part of a major program Nicorette: Say No to Tobacco, which is implemented under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation.A medical diagnostics stand was installed on the first floor of the airport terminal in the departure area, where passengers and airport visitors could check CO concentration in their lungs with a help of a consulting physician.All passengers and visitors who addressed the doctor at the stand passed an express test. The doctor informed them on the condition of their lungs and gave appropriate recommendations on how they can quit smoking.The doctor worked from 11:00 till 18:00. One could find the stand asking a “cigarette-man”. Apart from that the doctor provided passengers with a sample of Nicorette chewing gum. On 29 March 2006 at 20:51 an Il-62 aircraft operated by Libyan airline Jet Line, having performed a technical flight on the Tripoli-Moscow route, rolled out of the runway while landing and fell to pieces.All crew members (6 people) are alive. There were no passengers onboard.At the moment a cause of the accident is unknown. Specialists of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation and the airport’s rescue service are working at the accident site.
