The ceremony of laying the foundation stone of a new cargo village took place earlier today at Ekaterinburg International Airport. The event was attended, among others, by Russian Transport Minister Igor Levitin, Sverdlovsk Oblast Governor Alexander Misharin, and Ekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport General Director Evgeniy Chudnovskiy. About 17 000 square metres are due for completion within Phase One of the construction in December 2011; these are planned for the cargo terminal, offices of the airport’s Cargo Division, Koltsovo Customs and the Checkpoint Koltsovo-Ekaterinburg. According to an official statement of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation dated May 25, 2011, a resolution was adopted to construct a new runway at Moscow Domodedovo Airport.The new runway will replace existing Runway-2 to be decommissioned in 2015 due to its forthcoming reconstruction.The resolution made pursuant to the instructions of the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation following the meeting devoted to the development of the Moscow Transport Hub that took place on 28 March 2011.
