Aeroflot - Russian airlines

  • Aeroflot is Russia’s de facto National carrier and largest airline.
  • Vitaly G. Saveliev is Aeroflot’s Director General and CEO (since April 10, 2009).
  • Founded by the Russian Government on February 09, 1923 Aeroflot is among the world’s oldest airlines and one of Russia’s most recognised brands.
  • Aeroflot was the first Russian airline company to join the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 1989.

    Through its hub at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow, Aeroflot under the Summer schedule 2011, operates flights to 102 destinations in 49 countries (29 destinations in Russia). Inside Russia, Aeroflot has five branches — in St. Petersburg, Sochi, Krasnoyarsk, Kaliningrad and Vladivostok. The airline pays a special attention to its presence in the Russian market, especially Siberia and the Far East.

    In 2010, Aeroflot carried 11, 3 million passengers (30 per cent increase compared to 2009). The total amount of passengers carried by Aeroflot Group exceeded 14 million.

  • In April 2006 Aeroflot became a full member of SkyTeam, the second-largest airline alliance in the world. Through its combined vast network, SkyTeam provides service to 898 destinations in 169 countries.
  • Aeroflot operates code-sharing agreements with 28 Russian and foreign airline companies.
  • Aeroflot Group includes several subsidiaries (two biggest one, Donavia, is based in Rostov-on-Don). Aeroflot is currently working on a major consolidation project taking over six Russian regional airlines from Rostechnologies (Russian Technologies State Corporation).

    Aeroflot starts operating an A320 aircraft named ‘V. Glushko’
