Ekaterinburg Airport Sees a Stable Passenger Growth, Including Regional Routes
During the nine months of 2011, Ekaterinburg Koltsovo International Airport handled 2 548 280 passengers, a 23 percent increase year-on-year. The international passenger traffic grew by 17 percent (931 429 PAX), the domestic flow increased by 23 percent (1 394 107 PAX), and the increment of passengers on CIS flights was 54.6 percent (222 744 PAX). The number of aircraft departures was 15 064, which is 30.8 percent more than in the 9 months of the previous year. The airport handled 18 140 tonnes of freight and mail (+11.5%).
“Most of Koltsovo’s passengers are domestic ones, including those travelling on flights of the Ekaterinburg regional air service development program, which after just one month has shown a good result: many of the flights are fully or almost fully loaded,” says Ekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport General Director Evgeniy Chudnovskiy. “Besides, the stable growth in Koltsovo’s passenger numbers allows us to forecast that approximately by mid-November Ekaterinburg Airport will welcome its 3 000 000th passenger for the first time in the last twenty years.”
In September 2011, Koltsovo handled 346 387 PAX (+26.6% year-on-year); among them, 179 816 domestic passengers (+25%), 136 701 international PAX (+24.1%), and 29 870 travellers to/from CIS countries (+51.7%). All in all, in September 2011 Koltsovo handled air services to 88 destinations (40 domestic and 48 international), 48 of them tourist destinations. There were 1 958 aircraft departures, a 28.7 percent increase. Koltsovo handled
2 322.8 tonnes of freight and mail, 3.2 percent more than in September 2010.
