Domodedovo Airport at Air Cargo Forum-2012
Moscow Domodedovo Airport participated in the main international air cargo exhibition and forum, Air Cargo Forum and Exposition 2012, held in Atlanta (USA). The Domodedovo stand at the Forum gave visitors an insight into the development of the fast-growing air cargo market, in Russia cargo traffic has grown by nearly 70% in seven years from 2005 through 2011. Domodedovo considers this line of business a core priority one and, as the largest Russian air port, handles 35% of all cargo traffic accounting for the Moscow air transport hub, which in turn represents 65% of all air cargo in Russia.
Domodedovo offers the broadest route network in Russia, including domestic flights, which enables the best-possible range of connections for transit cargo. Partner airlines currently serve 83 transit cargo routes via the airport using spacious, wide-body aircrafts. Another major cargo service was added on October 10, 2012, when Polet Airline resumed charter operations to the Far East using a wide-body, long-haul Il-96-400T liner.
Domodedovo has warehouse space enabling handling of 190,000 tons of cargo per year and operates its own 18 parking lots for wide-body transport aircraft, including six for the most up-to-date cargo liners (Boeing 747-89 Freighter and similar). The airport also has the a favourable location close to the biggest logistics centres and industrial parks in the Russian capital, including the Severnoye Domodedovo industry and logistics complex, which is the largest class-A complex in Moscow and in Europe.
Domodedovo is developing its cargo capacity and handling infrastructure by the construction of a fourth line at the cargo terminal, due for commissioning in late 2013. The new line will increase cargo handling capacity by 113% tons to 405,000 tons per year. The airport is also implementing a large-scale project for the construction of "Cargo Village".
The Air Cargo Forum and Exposition is held every other year with and is supported by the International Air Cargo Association (TIACA). Domodedovo Moscow Airport has been a TIACA member since 2004. The Association is a prestigious non-profit organization focused on comprehensive support and development of the international market for cargo transport and related services.
Moscow Domodedovo Airport is the largest airport of Russia in terms of passenger traffic. In 2011, total passenger traffic of the airport amounted to 25,701,610 people which let Domodedovo to become the first Russian airport to join the category of the largest airports in Europe on the classification of the Airports Council International (ACI). Domodedovo is the base airport in Russia for member airlines of two largest global airline alliances - oneworld and Star Alliance. Moscow Domodedovo Airport tops the list of the best airports in Eastern Europe in terms of the service quality, according to the annual survey by the independent research company Skytrax Research (UK).
