Holiday Season’s High Point is Achieved: Domodedovo Airport Summarized the results of this Summer
Traditionally, August is the peak month in terms of the number of served passengers: during last month of summer, 3,232,687 passengers used services of Moscow Domodedovo Airport’s, and it is 7.1% more than the same period last year. The number of takeoff and landing operations was 25,329.
In August, the passenger traffic in domestic airlines (DAL) increased on 15.3% compared to the same period in 2011: airport’s services were used by more than 1,320,000 people. Passenger traffic in international airlines (IAL) exceeded more than 1,911,000 people in August.
Over the whole summer holiday period, the airport has provided its services to more than 9,123,000 passengers. The majority of air travelers have chosen to spend their holidays this summer in Antalya, Barcelona, Sochi, Burgas, and Tivat, and total passenger traffic on these destinations reached over 1,177,000 people.
Domodedovo Airport becomes increasingly attractive to the transit passengers, who choose it due to the vast variety of destinations in the MAH, and convenient connecting routes offered by the air harbor and its partner airlines. In percentage terms, the number of transit passengers, who has chosen Domodedovo Airport as a connecting point for their summer journey, travelling with a single ticket to/from St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, Ekaterinburg, was 33.9%, 31.7%, and 20% respectively1 of total passenger traffic on these destinations.
During this summer the demand among passengers on self-check-in services through CUSS kiosks, mobile devices or via the Internet increased. The leading Russian carrier by number of passengers checking in through CUSS kiosks at Domodedovo Airport was S7 Airlines – 14.4% of all travelers. In August, 31.4% of the total number of S7 Airlines’ passengers departing from Domodedovo used all kinds of self-check-in services.
Over the 8 months of 2012, passenger traffic of Domodedovo Airport achieved 18,717,000 people, and it is 9.1% more than in the same period last year.
7,607,000 people used DAL services of Domodedovo airport (plus 14% to the index of January-August 2011). The highest growth was recorded on the following routes: Saint-Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar, Chelyabinsk, and Anapa. Over 8 months this year, these destinations have been used by more than 2 million passengers, and it was 26.8% more than last year.
IAL services of Domodedovo were used by 11,109,000 passengers (plus 5.9% to the index of January-August 2011). The highest growth was recorded on the following routes: Dubai, Barcelona, Burgas, Kiev, and Minsk. Over 8 months in 2012, passenger traffic in these destinations achieved 1,277,000 people, and it was 38.6% more than in the same period last year.
Cargo traffic of Moscow Domodedovo Airport, in August 2012, was 17,375 tonnes, which is 4.4% more than in the same period last year. Over January-August 2012, Domodedovo cargo traffic increased on 3.6%, compared to 8 months last year, and achieved 122,991 tonnes.

Since 2009, Moscow Domodedovo Airport tops the list of the best airports in the Eastern Europe by quality of service, according to an annual survey by the independent research company Skytrax Research (UK).
