Summer Equator: Domodedovo Airport Sums Up the Results of July
In July 2012, Moscow Domodedovo Airport served 3,139,513 people, which is 7.8% more, than in the same period in 2011. Number of take offs and landings amounted to 24,985 in July. According to the statistics of 7 months of 2012 the passenger flow at Domodedovo Airport grew by 9.6% compared to the same period of 2011 and reached 15,484,510 people. The Airport has handled 141,870 flights during the period from January to July 2012.
The most significant growth of passenger flow was recorded in domestic airlines (DAL) in July 2012, if compared to July 2011 – 18.5%, the airport served 1,278,288 people. For 7 months of this year the passenger flow on domestic flights exceeded the last year’s figures by 13.9% and amounted to 6,286,670 people. The highest growth (+24.3%) provided the following routes: St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Krasnodar, Anapa, and Sochi. The passenger flow on theese routes amounted to 1,783,000 people.
In July 2012 the passenger flow on international flights (IAL) reached 1,861,225 people. The number of passengers on international flights increased to 9,197,840 people (plus 6.8% to the same period in 2011) from January to July 2012. The highest growth was recorded on the following routes: Kiev, Minsk, Dubai, Bangkok, and Barcelona. In January-July 2012, 1,100,000 people were transported on these routes and it’s on 39.9% more than in the same period of last year.
The cargo traffic in Domodedovo Airport in July 2012 increased by 3.5% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 16,340 tn. During January-July 2012 the freight traffic of Domodedovo has grown by 3.4% compared to the same period last year and reached 105,616 tn.
Domodedovo Airport constantly improves the quality of services provided to travelers. The air hub pays special attention on food preferences of passengers. In July the airport presented its new menu to the Tasting Council members, journalists, and airlines representatives, so in fall and winter the passenger were able to try the food from the new menu.
Airport Domodedovo organized one more unusual presentation in mid-summer in conjunction with Kolavia airlines and TUI tour operator. The partners offered an exclusive service for Russian market – flights under the tour operator’s brand. This collaboration allows to control the quality of services during the whole trip and creates such a level of service, that attracts tourists again and again.
In July Domodedovo for the first time announced the results of contest among the most punctual Russian and foreign carriers. The competition which was organized by the airport 5 years ago, now is held in accordance with the strict international standards for unforeseen accidental circumstances which may affect the delay – only 15 minutes. Transaero, Kolavia, Saratov Airlines, Avia Management Group, Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines, bmi and airBaltic were awarded as the most punctual air carriers operating flights from Domodedovo Airport.
Domodedovo Airport attracts passengers with its wide range of routes – 244 routes, 87 of which are unique for the Moscow Aviation Hub. A new route was added in July. Transaero Airlines opened a regular flight to the most romantic city of the world – Paris.
In July Russian air transportation market has released a new carrier - AIR ONIX, which has chosen Domodedovo Airport as a partner in Moscow Aviation Hub. The airline opened two regular daily flights to Simferopol and the frequency of communications on this route has increased to 44 flights per weeks.
Moscow Domodedovo Airport is the largest airport in Russia and Europe in terms of passenger traffic, according to the ACI classification. Following 2011, the airport has served 25,70, 610 people. Moscow Domodedovo Airport has been chosen for flights to Moscow by members of the world's leading aviation alliances - Star Alliance and Oneworld. Since 2010, Moscow Domodedovo Airport has been on top of the list of the best airports in Eastern Europe in terms of the service quality, according to an annual survey by the independent research company Skytrax Research (UK).
