Domodedovo Airport Expands the Range of Services for Passengers with Disabilities
Improving the system of service for the disabled passengers, in the first half-year of 2012, Moscow Domodedovo Airport has bought the additional equipment for the comfortable and safe transportation of this category of travelers. The specialized vehicle fleet increased by eight new minibuses, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and two ambulift vehicles TLD CHTP-PM 5.9, created on base of Mercedes-Benz Atego.
Now, after registration, the disabled people, assisted by officers of the special airport service may get to the ground floor of the passenger terminal on the elevator, and from where an ambulift will bring them on board. The new vehicle can hold up to three wheelchairs with three support staff and one stretcher. The ambulift’s platform is able to "reach" the height of 5.9 m, making it possible to bring passengers to any type of aircraft serviced at Domodedovo Airport. Currently there are 3 ambulift vehicles, but within two months the fleet is to be replenished by two more vehicles.
This year, new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans for VIP travelers has been commissioned, each of which can accommodate up to 5 wheelchairs. Two of the vans are equipped with a special electrically driven platform for driving in.
For the disabled passengers and persons accompanying them, arriving at the airport on their own vehicles, about 600 dedicated parking places were allocated in all parking lots of Domodedovo airport. If all of the dedicated parking places are occupied, it is permitted to park the vehicle on an unmarked parking place upon consulting with a parking lot officer or through a feedback system of an automatic POS terminal.
