Top Media Journalists of Lithuania visited Moscow Domodedovo Airport
On February 13, Lithuanian journalists visited Moscow Domodedovo Airport to take a closer look at the operation of the largest airport in Russia and Eastern Europe. The guests arrived with a new international RD 444 flight Kaunas-Moscow opened in Domodedovo by IrAero on December 16, 2011.
"We are happy to welcome you in RussiaРЋР‡s flagship air harbors," Elena Selyanchenkova, head of the airportРЋР‡s press office, said in her opening statement at the presentation organized for the guests. "The airport is continuously growing, it introduces sophisticated technologies to attract new partners and open new destinations."
The journalists learnt about the upcoming construction of a new runway which geometry and load-bearing capacity will enable it along with Runway-1 to accommodate all types of aircraft, including Airbus A-380; about the expansion and renovation of the passenger terminal to double its total area in the third quarter of 2012 to 226,000 sq.m. from 2011; about design and commissioning of 3 multilevel above ground and underground parking facilities to enhance the private car parking network capacity from 5,000 to 13,900 spaces.
The guests were shown around the passenger terminal to see check-in islands expanded in 2011, the baggage terminal to get a closer look at the state-of-the-art 4-level automated baggage screening system and were given a ride along the apron where they could view the apron facilities and aircraft.
The journalists then went on tour around Moscow which was specially arranged for them by Domodedovo Airport. The visitors went to the city by a fast and comfortable Aeroexpress train regularly running between Paveletsky Rail Terminal and Domodedovo airport.РЋРЋ
"I was really impressed by Domodedovo airport. It is hard to imagine this number, 25 million passengers annually," Rita Norutiene, PR consultant at Publicum Financial Communications said. "I will tell my peers and friends about this great tour and hopefully visit Moscow again shortly."
Today, passengers can travel from Lithuania to Moscow by new regular 3-flights-per-week route Kaunas (Karmelava) РЃC Moscow (Domodedovo) opened by IrAero airline. New Moscow-Kaunas flights will boost bilateral relations between Russia and Lithuania in social, cultural and business areas.
IrAero is a Russian airline based in Irkutsk airport. It carries out regular passenger flights from 2006. Most routes connect the cities of Siberia and the Far East. The companyРЋР‡s fleet includes 19 aircraft: 4 CRJ-200, 6 An-24, 3 An-26-100 and 6 An-26 freight carriers.
Moscow Domodedovo Airport is the largest airport in Russia and Europe in terms of passenger traffic. Following 2011, the airport has served 25,701,610 people and entered the group of the largest European airports, according to the ACI classification. Moscow Domodedovo Airport has been chosen for flights to Moscow by members of the world's leading aviation alliances - Star Alliance and oneworld. Since 2010, Moscow Domodedovo Airport has been on top of the list of the best airports in Eastern Europe in terms of the service quality, according to the annual survey by the independent research company Skytrax Research (UK).
