airberlin in Majorca receives award from ?Capital?
airberlin received an award from ?Capital?, the Spanish magazine, for its services to tourism and the economy in Majorca. This is the first year that the business magazine awarded the ?Palma de Mallorca? prize to companies and individuals from the world of business, politics and culture, who helped to publicise the name of ?Palma de Mallorca? in a positive light. airberlin was the only non-Majorcan company honoured for its corporate commitment. Сlvaro Middelmann, Director airberlin for Spain and Portugal, collected the award during a ceremony in the ?Es Baluard Museum? in Palma de Mallorca.
For nine years in succession airberlin has been market leader at Palma de Mallorca airport and the airline?s history is also closely intertwined with the island. The first flight of what was then Air Berlin Inc. to take off from Berlin-Tegel on 28th April 1979 was in fact headed for Majorca. The hub was created in 1998 and ever since then it has provided year-round connections to 14 destinations on the neighbouring islands and on the Spanish mainland as well as three destinations in Portugal. A total of 7,047,010 (incl. NIKI) passengers used a flight operated by the airberlin group in 2010 to fly to or from Majorca.
