Ekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport Has Been Appointed Host of the Largest International Aviation Forum Routes CIS 2012

In summer of 2012, Ekaterinburg will play Host to the International Route Development Forum – Routes CIS – and this will be the first time for the event to be held in Russia. Traditionally the Event has been attended by decision makers from the world leading airports and largest airlines, and to be chosen Host of Routes CIS means a chance to showcase to the Forum guests from CIS countries, Europe and Asia economic, industrial, and tourism potential of the Host city and its airport. Routes gives an opportunity within a short amount of time to conduct a number of one-to-one meetings with business partners from all over the world. Over 17 years of its existence Routes has acquired a well deserved renown and has proved its claim of being the main aviation event worldwide which helps make connections between airlines and airports and announce new air services.

“Since 2003 the airport has witnessed an upsurge in development which helped strengthen the airport status on the market and provided opportunities for further dynamic changes”, says Koltsovo Airport General Director Evgeny Chudnovskiy. “This is attested by the Routes’ choice in favour of Koltsovo Airport, as hosting of the world leading aviation event is a sort of mark of quality for the airport. To have Routes CIS held in Ekaterinburg is a perfect opportunity to make a statement in the international aviation industry, to demonstrate all the achievements and share expertise in introduction of new technologies, to find new partners and enhance relationship with those involved in current mutual projects…”

In April 2011, the airport supported by the Ministry of Foreign Economic and International Affairs of Sverdlovsk Oblast, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Sverdlovsk Oblast and International Relations Committee of Ekaterinburg City Administration entered into the bidding process for hosting Routes CIS in the Urals capital. The airport team also negotiated with a number of companies wishing to participate in the event organization in this or that way: airlines, hotels, exhibition centres, tourism companies.

Along with Koltsovo Airport a number of other airports and cities took part in the selection process. Therefore, to make a final decision the event organizers paid a visit to each bidding city. In late June 2011, Gerard Brown, Tourism Development Director, and Alexandra Woodward, Account Executive, Airport +, came to Ekaterinburg with an inspection visit and were impressed by the modern image of the city and state-of-the-art facilities that could become venues for various networking and hospitality functions.

Katie Bland, Future Hosts Director for Routes commented “We are delighted to announce Ekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport as host of the second edition of Routes CIS, to take place 24th – 26th June 2012 in Ekaterinburg. Koltsovo Airport is the largest regional airport in Russia; Ekaterinburg, founded in 1723 and rich in history and culture, is the fourth largest city and third largest transportation hub in Russia.  We are looking forward to working with such a committed and professional host team whose partnership with us will take this second edition of the Routes CIS event to the next level.
