Martin Biesel appointed new Political Representative at airberlin
Martin Biesel, 48, former Secretary of State at the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been appointed as the new Director for International Traffic Rights and the Board?s Political Representative at airberlin as from 1st November 2011. He therefore succeeds Secretary of State (retd.) Matthias von Randow, who now represents the interests of German airlines and airports as CEO of the recently established Federal Association of the German Aviation Industry, a post he took up on 1st July 2011. ?With Martin Biesel joining the Board, airberlin is gaining a professional politician with proven credentials and excellent connections extending well beyond the German border,? commented airberlin CEO Joachim Hunold.
Until June of this year Martin Biesel, in his capacity as Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was responsible for EURO, export trade development and development cooperation; furthermore he acted as the Vice Chancellor?s Coordinator.
After successfully completing high school and his military service, Biesel began to study political science and history as well as German language and literature at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelm University in Bonn. He then spent a year abroad as teaching assistant at Ripon College in Wisconsin, USA, before completing his MA in 1990. Biesel then embarked on his professional career with the Free Democratic Party (FDP), working for many years in various positions, including Office Manager to General Secretaries Dr. Werner Hoyer and Dr. Guido Westerwelle, and also serving as Head of the Politics and Strategy Department at the National Party Headquarters.
From 1999 to 2001 Biesel was Senior Manager for Government and Political Relations at EADS, then Managing Director of the ?Citizens? Fund for Germany? until 2002, before taking over as Head of the Bundestag Office, and one legislative period later the Office of the Chairman of the FDP Parliamentary Party, Guido Westerwelle. From November 2009 to June 2011 Biesel was Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
