Amritsar is located in the north-western part of India in the state of Punjab. It was founded in 1547. The city is a spiritual and cultural center of the Sikh religion. Its main sacred site is the Golden Temple. An advantageous location of Amritsar which is called a medieval gate to India predetermined its cultural development: plenty of sights have made this place popular among pilgrims and tourists. Today the population of the city is over 1,100,000 people.
