The landing field modernisation includes a full survey carried out by the Aroproekt Research Institute to lay down the runway axis – which was completed within three months - and an enhancement of the Aerodrome’s technology systems conducted by Honeywell Airport Systems. In nine months of 2004 the total amount of passengers served by Domodedovo International Airport reached 9.436.000, representing 35,7% year on year growth. Passenger flow on international routes reached 4.982 million passengers, which is a 52,8% more compared with the same period of 2003. Domodedovo International Airport introduces a prolonged check-in period during peak hours. The airport management have taken a decision to open check-in 3 hours prior to a flight in the evening. The innovation is valid for all flights departing from 8 p.m. till 10 p.m., when the amount of passengers increases. Domodedovo Aircraft Maintenance Base has signed a treaty with an "IFK Technik" joint-stock company, a subsidiary of the Ilyushin Finance leasing enterprise, to provide technical maintenance and repair for IL-96-300. This is the first cooperation agreement between Domodedovo Aircraft Maintenance Base and Ilyushin Finance company. After testings, the device will be installed in the aviation security area for domestic flights. Ionscan-400B is meant for express-detection of drug and explosive left-overs. The new equipment is based on the technology of spectral analysis of ions, enabling to track more than 40 types of explosives and drugs in less than 10 seconds. Domodedovo International Airport's passemger terminal to see more than 50% expansion after a large-scale programme of the terminal development is accomplished. The first stage of the programme provides for 27-meter shift of the front wall, adding 26.500 sq.meters to the terminal. This will allow to install automated luggage handling system similar to that used in the world's largest airports and 50 new check-in counters.
