A children’s book “Airport” was published within the framework of the dedicated programme “Domodedovo for Children”.A twelve-page book is written for little readers under 12 years of age and is performed as a book-transformer that allows to see the mechanism of an aircraft in sectional view as well as some areas of the terminal and technological zones of the airport.This edition explains in understandable for children way what happens in the airport, what a check-in area is, where luggage “vanishes” and “appears” again, where and how aircraft are prepared for a flight, how take-off and landing are performed.It is a common situation that adults cannot answer many questions of little whyers and this book helps to reveal some secrets of the airport. The Department of Interior Affairs on air and maritime transport of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation carries out a test of a multilevel security system at Domodedovo International Airport.The system includes six security zones: entry gates to check cars, inspectors groups at the entrances to the passenger terminal and preflight examination carried out along with the airport’s security service in the security control areas. Since January 2006 Domodedovo International Airport has been holding a competition to determine the most punctual airlines among those that provide passenger services from Domodedovo. The airport’s marketing department unveiled the results of March 2006.Upon the results of the estimations, the marketing specialists have drawn up a rating list that includes data on flight regularity of airlines. The Federal Air Transport Agency (FATA) of the Russian Federation has certified Domodedovo International Airport to admit SAAB-2000 and AVRO RJ-85 jets starting from 10 April 2006. Alexander Yurchik, head of FATA, signed the respective decree on 7 April 2006.SAAB-2000 is designed as a regional, subsidiary jet or a jet for military VIPs. SAAB entered into service in 1994. Russian airlines have not used this type of aircraft yet. However the model got the Russian airworthiness certificate in the beginning of 1996.In early 2006, Polet airline, based in Voronezh, performing flights to Domodedovo, announced that it was to acquire six Swedish SAAB-2000 jets. This aircraft are designed to perform the same tasks as of An-24 Russian jets. Delivery of the aircraft to Voronezh is planned for this April. ACI Europe (Airports Council International – European division) has published a report on performance of 96 European airports in February 2006. The document sums up the data on passenger and cargo traffic, as well as commercial movements. In May 2006 Domodedovo International Airport is to perform stage-by-stage increase in the number of check-in desks.In accordance with the work schedule from April 17, 2006 to April 27, 2006 ten more desks will be added to registration zone No. 3. From May 1, 2006 to May 11, 2006 ten check-in desks are to be added to zone No. 4.During extension the check-in zone will be temporarily (for four days two times) closed. On 29 April, 2006, Eurofly S.p.A., the leading Italian carrier, operating fligths to popular tourist destinations, whose shares are listed at Milan Stock Exchange, starts operating a new flight on the Moscow-Naples route from Domodedovo International Airport. Check Your Lungs program was implemented at Domodedovo International Airport on 3-4 April, 2006. It was a part of a major program Nicorette: Say No to Tobacco, which is implemented under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation.A medical diagnostics stand was installed on the first floor of the airport terminal in the departure area, where passengers and airport visitors could check CO concentration in their lungs with a help of a consulting physician.All passengers and visitors who addressed the doctor at the stand passed an express test. The doctor informed them on the condition of their lungs and gave appropriate recommendations on how they can quit smoking.The doctor worked from 11:00 till 18:00. One could find the stand asking a “cigarette-man”. Apart from that the doctor provided passengers with a sample of Nicorette chewing gum. On 29 March 2006 at 20:51 an Il-62 aircraft operated by Libyan airline Jet Line, having performed a technical flight on the Tripoli-Moscow route, rolled out of the runway while landing and fell to pieces.All crew members (6 people) are alive. There were no passengers onboard.At the moment a cause of the accident is unknown. Specialists of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation and the airport’s rescue service are working at the accident site. From 20 to 23 March, 2006, the US Transportation Security Administration conducted an audit at Domodedovo International Airport.
