A high throughput luggage scanner of a new generation CTX 5500 DS was set up in check-in area of the Israeli national air carrier EL AL Israel Airlines in Domodedovo International Airport.Scanner CTX 5500 DS produced by General Electric is a principally new element of the aviation security system. From 1 July “Interavia” airline starts to perform flights to Naryan-Mar from Domodedovo International Airport. The air carrier will operate Yak-42 jets in two class layout – business and economy – on this route.The airline plans to make weekly flight (on Saturdays) from 1 to 15 July. Domodedovo International Airport continues to improve technologies of passenger and airline servicing. Within the framework of the modernization of the airport complex, two double air bridges made by ThyssenKrupp have been set into operation in the international airlines’ area.Double air bridges of new types designed to service high capacity aircraft and provide for simultaneous passenger boarding and getting of the plane using two doors of an aircraft.The air bridges are equipped with microclimate control and three level security system. The height range of aircraft servicing varies from 2 to 5.5 meters. The operating area is from 15 to 33 meters that allows handling nearly all types of aircraft. On 31 May Kazakh airline SCAT started regular services from Domodedovo International Airport. The airport held a ceremony devoted to the first flight of SCAT airline the same day. On 26 May 2006, the Federal Air Transport Agency of the Russian Federation signed a decree on setting into operation the reconstructed section of the second taxiway starting from May 29. The section is to be used as the third runway of Domodedovo International Airport.The Agency’s decision was preceded by an immense work on reconstruction of the airfield aimed at ensuring high level of servicing the growing transportation volumes.The State Inspection Board carried out checks of the airport’s readiness for commissioning the runway that included a technical flight of Tu-154M jet which was successfully made on May 25. The Board drew up statements that were regarded as grounds for issuing the decree of the Agency.The third runway (2,600 meters long and 45 meters wide) will be used as a temporary runway till 2009 during the period of the reconstruction of the first runway. A pilot express railway service from Kalanchevskaya Railway Station (Moscow) to Airport Station (Domodedovo) will be opened on May 28, 2006.The express train, similar to the one, used at Paveletskiy Railway Terminal-Domodedovo route, includes 8 comfortable cars. Domodedovo International Airport forecasts passenger traffic increase during May holidays coinciding with the beginning of the vacation season. It is expected that the airport will service about 7,000 flights and over 700,000 passengers from April 28 to May 14, a 15.5% increase over the same period of 2005. On 29 April 2006 Eurofly S.p.A., an Italian airline, made the first regular flight from Domodedovo International Airport on the Moscow-Naples route.The ceremony devoted to the launch of services of the 17-th international air carrier was held in a festive atmosphere. The crew of the first flight made by an A320 and representatives of the airline and Campania regional tourism board were welcomed with bread and salt according to the Russian traditions in Domodedovo airport.
