Domodedovo International Airport has announced 2006 cargo traffic results showing overall traffic reaching 126,300 tonnes, a 6.8% year-on-year increase. The key factors for the increase include launch of services of new airlines from the airport, use of more spacious aircraft by air carriers and growth of cargo transportation on domestic routes supported by the strong growth of the Russian economy. Cargo traffic volume in December 2006 amounted to 11.9 tousand tonnes, 4.1% rise over December 2005.

Domodedovo International Airport served over 800,000 passengers during the winter seasonal holidays from Dec.25, 2006 to Jan.14, 2007. The result exceeded forecasts and demonstrated a 20% increase over the same period for 2005-2006. Domodedovo handled over 8,200 individual flights, a 24% year-on-year rise. The most popular destinations among tourists were the resorts of Thailand (Bangkok, Utapao, Phuket), Egypt (Sharm El Sheikh, Hurhada), UAE (Dubai), and beach resorts in Malaysia (Langkawi), Sri Lanka, Jordan (Aqaba), Israel (Eilat). Innsbruck, Salzburg and - a novelty - the French mountain resort Chanbery were in particular demand among mountain skiers.

ACI EUROPE (Airports Council International – European Division) has summarized the results of the activity of the European airports for November 2006. According to the Council's reports on the activity of 102 airports in Europe, Domodedovo International Airport continues to exhibit the positive growth dynamics and is one of the top three of European airports of Group 2, which are developing most dynamically and handle a passenger traffic varying between 10 and 25 million passengers a year.Domodedovo ranks second among the most dynamically developing airports of the second group, with its growth indicator in November 2006 being 11.8% compared to November 2005 (40.1% compared to November 2004). In the rankings the highest place is held by Dublin (12.9% growth in November 2006 compared to November 2005). Domodedovo is followed by the Milan-Malpensa (11.4%). Domodedovo International Airport has released its operating results for 2006. Overall passenger traffic at the airport reached 15.3 million passengers, a 10.1% year-on-year increase. In 2006, Domodedovo won 14 new domestic and international airlines. Its route network has been expanded by 30 new destinations worldwide. Airlines which launched services from Domodedovo last year included Singapore Airlines, Wind Jet (Italy), Eurofly (Italy), NEOS (Italy), Meridiana (Italy), Alpi Eagles (Italy), SCAT (Kazakhstan), Hola Airlines (Spain), Royal Jordanian Airlines, Aviaprad (Russia), Karat (Russia), bmi (UK), Air Berlin and Austrian Airlines. Today Air Berlin, a German budget airline, launches regular service from Nuremberg to Domodedovo International Airport. The air link will be the first between Moscow and Nuremberg. Nuremberg will be the seventh German city linked with Domodedovo. Air Berlin will operate its flights to Moscow three times a week – on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays – using a Boeing 737-700 with 144-seat capacity and a Boeing 737-800 with 189-seat capacity aircraft.It was announced in August of 2006, that Air Berlin had acquired a 100% interest in dba. In turn, dba purchased Germania Express in 2005. Effective January 1, 2007, all dba and Germania Express flights from/to Domodedovo International Airport will be operated under the Air Berlin colors. It is expected that the number of flights to Thailand will grow significantly. Today, it is the most dynamically developing tourist destination offered by Domodedovo. At the beginning of the winter season, the passenger traffic in this direction grows approximately 1.5 times the normal volume. Together, Transaero and Thai International Airways operate a total of 11 flights to Thailand a week using such roomy aircraft as Boeing 747-200 (Transaero) and Boeing 777-200 (Thai International Airways). Overall passenger throughput at Domodedovo in the first eleven months of 2006 reached 14,215,000 passengers, a 9.6% increase over the same period of 2005. Domodedovo International Airport announced today the launch of a new intermodal project designed to take passengers from downtown Moscow to the city of Ufa in 195 minutes. The new service is being implemented in co-operation with VIM Airlines. A new railway route connecting downtown Moscow and the Domodedovo International Airport was launched in operation in December 2006.Aeroexpress, a rapid train analogous to the one operating between the Paveletsky railway station and Domodedovo airport, consists of eight comfortable carriages and operates between the Domodedovo airport and the Belorussky railway station via the Kursky railway station and Kalanchovskaya platform three times a day.
