On the 20th of August ESEN AIR launches its second regular flight to Moscow Domodedovo International Airport from Bishkek to Moscow. It’s already the second regular flight on this route for the airline. ESEN AIR will operate Boeing 737-200 on Mondays. ESEN AIR launched regular services to Moscow Domodedovo International Airport from Bishkek to Moscow on the 17th of August 2007. Presently ESEN AIR will operate twice a week, on Mondays and Tuesdays. On August 16, 2007, Norwegian Air Shuttle began operation of regular flights between Oslo and Moscow (Domodedovo). The flights will be operated five times a week using Boeing 737-300 aircraft seating 148 passengers. This is a first destination in northern Europe to be connected with the Domodedovo airport by regular flights – all previous flights have been seasonal charters. Norwegian Air Shuttle President, Mr. Bjorn Kjos: “We are very happy to start flights to a new destination – Moscow. We already operate flights to St. Petersburg and Moscow is our second destination in Russia. As of July 2007, Domodedovo International Airport continues to be the leading airport of the Moscow aviation node in terms of the passenger traffic. In January – July 2007, the airport serviced more than 10 million passengers which is a 19.6% increase as compared to the same period of the previous year. The most significant passenger traffic growth was observed on flights to the following destinations: Yekaterinburg, Hurghada, Antalya, Vienna, London, Bangkok, St. Petersburg, Chelyabinsk, Tivat, and Baku. In January – July 2007, Domodedovo serviced 2,406 thousand passengers traveling to these destinations, which is 1.4 times the number of passengers serviced on flights to these destinations in the first seven months of 2006. Anyone willing to participate in the contest can familiarize themselves with its rules and submit their aviation-themed photographs taken in any airport of the world. The deadline for submission of entries is October 1. All photographs submitted for the contest will be made available on its webpage. On August 7, 2007, Domodedovo International Airport began implementation of a new phase of the Domodedovo Transit Service project designed to turn the airport into a large air transportation node, also known as a hub. Domodedovo suggests that passengers save their time and money when planning an indirect flight by buying airplane tickets at through fares. As part of the Domodedovo Transit Service project passengers are offered the opportunity to buy tickets for indirect flights (connecting at Domodedovo) at special through air fares that are often lower than direct flight fares. Airplane tickets are available at special through fares at all booking offices in Russia and the CIS countries. In compliance with its strategic development plan Domodedovo International Airport has commissioned two new buildings for technical brigades. The new facilities will improve efficiency of interaction between the airport and its partner airlines and provide the latter with the most comfortable working conditions possible. The buildings will serve as the working space for the engineers and technicians of the airlines based at Domodedovo. The facilities are located within the airside zone of the airport and have access to the boarding platform. The airport has fully commissioned a three-storey building and partially – a five-storey building. Domodedovo Airport Terminal Complex CJSC and Russian Railways OJSC have executed a long-term lease agreement that granted Domodedovo the right to lease 3,250 square meters of the Paveletsky railway station terminal for 10 years. The agreement entered into force yesterday, August 2, 2007. At the moment, the Domodedovo passenger terminal at the Paveletsky railway station occupies 1,600 square meters. The new agreement will enable the Domodedovo airport to begin its reconstruction and expansion. According to the airport complex strategic development plan, the reconstruction project will start in the fourth quarter of 2007 and is scheduled to complete in the middle of 2008. In the course of the reconstruction the useable area of the airport’s city terminal at the Paveletsky railway station will expand up to 2,900 square meters. On the 2nd of August a TU-204SE aircraft (a cargo version of TU-204-100) slated has been handed over to the aviation authorities of the Republic of Cuba under a long-term contract with the Russian Federation landed at Domodedovo International Aircraft in Moscow. This is Russia’s first serious commercial aircraft export contract since the collapse of the USSR. The jetliner landed at the Domodedovo airport at 17:44. It arrived from Aviastar-JV – a production plant in Ulyanovsk that manufactures the TU-204 family aircraft. The aircraft is due for Cuba on August 3rd. This is a fourth airplane that Ilyushin Finance Co. (IFC), a leasing company, has supplied to Cuba. In 2005-2006, IFC supplied three IL-96-300 long-range passenger aircraft two of which have convertible cabins that can be quickly transformed from the coach to the VIP class. As part of its passenger information support development program, Domodedovo International Airport has commissioned an Automatic Announcement System (AAS). The primary AAS function is to generate speech announcements for passengers in the terminal concerning such events as passenger registration and baggage check-in, flight boarding, baggage claim, arrivals, delays, and flight cancellations. Introduction of the system is another effort undertaken by the airport to improve the passenger information support quality by improving the quality of announcements and eliminating delays in informing passengers. The Automatic Announcement System is able to broadcast in a variety of languages which is a unique phenomenon in the Russian practice. On the 29th July freighter AN12 (side number 93912), ATRAN airlines crashed. Domodedovo International Airport has released its operating results for the first six months of 2007. According to the statistic data Domodedovo is maintaining its leading position in terms of passenger traffic among Moscow area airports. Overall passenger traffic at the airport in January-June reached 7.9 million passengers, a 19.0% increase over the same period of 2006. Expansion works have been completed in Domodedovo airport’s Passport Control Area, Sector A of International Departures. The works were performed within the scheduled passenger terminal area expansion, installation of state-of-the-art equipment as well as introduction of modern technologies. This measure is meant to provide more convenience to passengers undergoing pre-flight formalities and to expedite the passport control process.The Passport Control Area is located in Sector A (International Departures) on the first floor of the airport. Today, a Domodedovo Airlines flight from Vladivostok brought an unusual cargo to Domodedovo International Airport – two tiger cubs from Primorye forests. The seven-month old tiger cubs were found in the woods by some local residents. The animals were in a poor condition and required professional care. The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) took the cubs under its wing and provided them with treatment and food. The Moscow zoo took care of their transportation first to Moscow and then on to the Penza zoo and the Norden Ark zoo in Sweden. The tiger cubs arrived in the cargo bay of an IL-62 onboard Domodedovo Airlines flight No.102, Vladivostok - Moscow. The cubs traveled in separate cages covered with fabric and placed in ventilated wooden boxes for additional safety.
