According to January 2008 performance results Moscow Domodedovo International airport keeps maintaining its leading position among Moscow airport in terms of passenger traffic.Total passenger traffic in January amounted to 1 371 209 passengers, a 21,5% increase over the same period in 2007. On the 23rd of January, programme of regular excursions for pupils started.. Children Shools children from school #974 became first guests of the airport.The children observed Aviation training centre where aviation security specialists undergo training, and Aviation Maintenance base where aircrafts are serviced. The aviation training centre (ATC) of Domodedovo Airport Aviation Security, an East Line Group member, has been licensed by the Ministry of Education of the Moscow region to engage in education activities. This will enable the ATC to train aviation security personnel. The ATC is capable of training up to 300 highly qualified specialists per month.Today, the ATC disposes of the most advanced technical base in Russia. All of the airport production levels, i.e. check-in, customs, border, and special control areas, are recreated inside a 1,000 sq. m. training facility. Centre-Avia airlines launches flights on Moscow (Domodedovo) – Nizhniy Novgorod – Moscow (Domodedovo). The flights will be operated seven times a week using Аirbus A320 aircraft. In other words, bmi will be operating 14 London (Heathrow) – Moscow (Domodedovo) flights a week (i.e. two flights a day).The decision to launch an additional daily flight was made following the successful launch of a daily flight to Domodedovo in October 2006 which was the first bmi flight on the market of medium-range flights. The wheel and brake repair and maintenance shop that was opened at the Domodedovo airport in December 2007 serviced its first client – Transaero. Today, on December 28, 2007, Runway-1 was put into use at Moscow Domodedovo International Airport after the project of its renovation was completed. The decree to this effect was signed yesterday by the head of Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency Yevgeny Bachurin. The reopening of the renovated runway has marked a milestone in the history of Moscow Domodedovo International Airport. The reopening of the runway will allow the airport to increase its throughput and regularity of operations, which is particularly important on the eve of the New Year holiday season and given the forecast increase in passenger throughput in 2008.
