Background:

Construction of Sheremetyevo Airport started in 1953. It was built as the chief aerodrome for the Soviet Army’s air force. Later on, by a resolution of the government and with personal assistance of N.S. Khrushchev, the airport was transferred to the Main Directorate of the Civil Air Fleet.

OnВ August 11th, 1959В a Tu-104 liner took off inВ Leningrad and landed atВ Sheremetyevsky Aerodrome, where the airport divisions rendered aВ full range ofВ commercial and technical services for the first time. This date isВ considered the birth date ofВ the airport.

In 1964 Sheremetyevo-1 Terminal (Terminal B) was built, including boarding building, which got the nickname of “Shot glass” and became a highlight of the airport for years to come. On January 1, 1980 on the eve of the 20th Olympic Games in Moscow, the new Sheremetyevo-2 international air terminal (Terminal F) was inaugurated.

InВ 2007, Terminal CВ for international flights with annual capacity ofВ 5В million people opened its doors. InВ spring 2008, aВ modern Aeroexpress railway station was built and direct Moscow-Sheremetyevo railway service was provided.

InВ December 2008, aВ premium-class hangar complex offered its comprehensive services for business-aviation jets.

InВ autumn 2009, Terminal DВ was commissioned (with area ofВ 172 thousand m2, designed for 12В million passengers per year). This airport terminal isВ intended for servicing flights ofВ Aeroflot and its partners from Sky Team alliance.

InВ spring 2010, Sheremetyevo Airport established aВ modern international Terminal EВ with total area ofВ 76В thousand m2 and annual capacity ofВ more than 7В million passengers. This terminal connected terminalsВ D andВ F and Aeroexpress railway station with each other and created one entire South Terminal Complex.

InВ 2011, inВ the northern part ofВ Sheremetyevo Airport, the construction ofВ Terminal AВ was completed. This terminal was intended toВ render services toВ business-aviation passengers.

InВ 2013, aВ new Sheremetyevo Airport Flight Control Tower began operating, complying with all modern requirements toВ aircraft service quality.

Sheremetyevo International Airport isВ the first Russian airport which established anВ integrated plan ofВ prospective development upВ toВ year ofВ 2030, taking into account parameters ofВ the RFВ Transport Strategy upВ toВ 2030. The master plan involves increase ofВ Sheremetyevo Airport capacity upВ toВ 64В million people and transit traffic growth byВ 25% byВ year ofВ 2030.
