Aeroflot starts operating an A320 aircraft named ‘V. Glushko’

February 2, 2011, Moscow. - JSC ‘Aeroflot - Russian Airlines’ obtained the 36th A320 aircraft manufactured by Airbus. The aircraft is named after Valentin Glushko, a famous Russian engineer, renowned Soviet researcher in aerospace technologies, and a pioneer in construction of liquid-fuel rocket engines.

Currently the airline’s fleet includes 69 aircraft of the А319/320/321 family; their average age is 3.6 years.

The aircraft was obtained as part of the operating lease agreement concluded in 2008 with BOC Aviation (Ireland) Limited.

All the air vessels were delivered directly from the manufacturing plant. The aircraft two-compartment cabins can accommodate 116 (А319), 140 (А320), or 170 (А321) passengers. Aeroflot was the winner in the contest between European members of SkyTeam in serving economy-class passengers in short- and medium-range flights and business-class passengers in long-range flights.  “Onboard Survey,” the marketing survey conducted by SkyTeam from April to September 2009, confirmed Aeroflot’s leading positions.

Aeroflot belongs to 25 leading airlines of the world according to Air Transport World journal, based on the results of its financial and economic activities in 2009 (“operating profit” and “profit margin” categories).

Aeroflot was the first Russian carrier to be included in the IOSA operator registry and it continues to confirm the certificate in a regular way.  The airline has successfully passed the Safety audit for ground operations (ISAGO).  Aeroflot is a holder of the unified certificate of compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2008.
