Air Berlin: More passengers and increased revenue in March
In March 2010 - just like in the previous month - Air Berlin, Germany's second-largest airline company, was able to increase the number of passengers transported. Air Berlin welcomed 2,403,421 passengers on board, i.e. 4.8 percent more than in the corresponding month of the previous year (March 2009: 2,293,158 passengers, including those travelling on the acquired TUIfly routes). At the same time, Air Berlin was able to increase its revenue per available seat kilometer (ASK) to 5.58 Eurocents, i.e. an increase of 1.4 percent (March 2009: 5.51 Eurocents). Fleet capacity utilization decreased to 72.3 percent, i.e. by 1.7 percentage points (March 2009: 74.0 percent). Capacity increased by 7.3 percent as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
For the period from January to March 2010, Air Berlin transported a total of 6,235,175 passengers (including those travelling on the acquired TUIfly routes), i.e. 2.4 percent more than in the corresponding period of the previous year (2009: 6,089,685 passengers). Accumulated capacity increased by 3.5 percent. Fleet capacity utilization for the first three months of the year decreased by 0.8 percentage points to 70.8 percent (2009: 71.6 percent).
